Achievements and Reflection on Major Concerns
Major Concern 1:
Enhancing study atmosphere and learning motivation of students by setting clear targets
for different forms
Achievements
1. Enhancing study atmosphere: To a large extent, the school has cultivated studying
atmosphere among the students, e.g. ECA activities are suspended at 6:00 pm every day,
special form assembly in L9, special morning assembly on Day 2 with a focus on learning
attitude education and certificate award to S4-S5 after the first term exam.
2. Enhancing learning motivation: To a certain extent, the learning motivation of students
has been enhanced through different measures such as after-school homework completion
class (ASHWC), after-school tutorial classes of the core subjects, gifted programs in
Maths, Physics and English and so on.
3. Setting up form coordinators: This year, through the collaboration of Departments of
Studies, Discipline and Counselling, form meetings have been conducted to monitor the
learning atmosphere of the classes of the form as well as to support form and class teachers
in face of problems. The mechanism has strengthened the coordination among teachers and
provided support to them.
4. Introducing action plans: In order to boost the public exam results of the senior form
students, S6 students in particular, action plans have been drawn and implemented by
academic subject panels. It is believed the students have been better equipped for the
HKDSE.
5. Other measures to help the S6 students: This year resources are added to enable the
subject panels to purchase our students’ answer scripts, with different levels, in HKDSE.
Such practice enables both the teachers and students know better the exam requirements of
HKDSE. Students have been arranged to attend the mock exam organized by external
learning institutions. The feedback from students is encouraging. Also, the S6 UT has been
changed to a mock exam to provide more drillings to students.
6. Optimizing the S4 class structure in 2014-2015: To provide more support to the core
subjects, the S4 classes of the next year will be split into 5 classes. In addition, concepts of
elite class, synergy effects and competitiveness have been introduced in the process of
subject selection.
7. S3 subject selection and related education: This year the S4 structure and the details of
the subject selection have been revised. In addition, try-out lessons of some NSS subjects
and a series of educational activities have been organized to train the students to make
better decisions in subject selection. It is believed such education is beneficial to students.

8. Visit to universities and career education for senior form students: This year the senior
form students are encouraged to visit universities in order to enhance their aspiration
towards university learning. Apart from this, more career education such as the Career Day
has been provided for students. The feedback from students is encouraging.
9. Joint Panel: A joint panel has been set up to deal with students with continuous learning
problems in class. Prompt actions have been taken to deal with those students and it has
been reported that improvement of students has been shown.
10. N4 classes: With the addition of senior N4 classes of the core subjects, students with
unsatisfactory results in UTs are required to attend the N4 classes so as to better prepare
them for the examinations.
11. Enhancement and remedial classes: Those classes have been extended to S4 that all
senior forms have been given resources to provide those classes to students in need. It is
believed that those classes are useful to students.
12. Supporting SEN: This year special exam arrangement has been kept to help those students
in need. On top of this, special arrangement on some daily assessments such as dictation
has also been provided. Also, a set of promotion criteria for SEN has been put forward by
the Counselling Department. Such measures are believed to offer more suitable support to
the SEN.
13. Thinking skill education: This year thinking skill education has been further promoted as
seen from the provision of a debate talk and a debate workshop, apart from the annual
inter-house debate contest. It is believed such education enables students to acquire not
only debating skills but also thinking skills that help subjects like Chinese and Liberal
Studies.
14. Post-test/ exam analysis: Analysis is conducted right after the uniform test and
examination. Subject panels are informed of the analysis and follow up at once.
15. Reminding letters to low achievers: The school has tried to identify the academic low
achievers (students who have not met the promotion criteria) right after the uniform tests
and examinations. Reminder letters are issued to the students.

Reflection
1. Goal setting: Students should be educated to set learning targets and other goals at
different levels. More systematic education program on goal setting should be provided in
future.

Different study skills should be taught to students at different levels systematically.
3. Learning atmosphere and learning attitude: Learning atmosphere and learning attitude
of students should be further enhanced.
4. Thinking education: Thinking education should be further enhanced.
5. Academic-related ECA: more academic-related extra-curricular activities should be
launched to further enhance the learning atmosphere of the school.
6. Remedial classes in junior forms: In face of the cancellation of small class teaching of the
core subject, remedial classes of the core subjects should be kept to help those in need.
7. In short, the targets of Major Concern 1 have been partly achieved with room for
improvement.

further confirmed. Staff development program has been organized to support colleagues in
EMI teaching.

that such policy will enhance the learning atmosphere of the school.
